Frequently Asked Questions
What is Letters in Motion?
Letters in Motion is an app for touchscreen devices used to create video by animating text. Videos can be made entirely of animated text or can be composited into live action, CG, or animated video.
What platforms are supported?
We work to make the app available on as many platforms as possible. We support:
- iOS 5.1+
- Android 2.3+
- Kindle (All generations)
- Windows 7+
- Mac OS X 10.6+
What if I don't have a touchscreen?
Letters in Motion was designed specifically for touch-based interaction, which differs greatly from the mouse-based alternative. You are, of course, welcome to install the app a computer without a touchscreen, but we think you'll find the experience a bit lacking.
Who uses the App?
A wide range of creative individuals creating all kinds of video content. The app is well-suited to digital artists that have at least a little experience with animation, but can also serve as a great introduction to animation for newcomers interested in learning a new skill.
How much does it cost?
It's free! Seriously, it is $0.00.
What is the output?
Letters in Motion supports output to numerous industry standard formats:
- Lossy Video: Motion JPEG Codec in an AVI container
- Lossless Video: Motion PNG Codec in an AVI container
- Uncompressed Video: Raw Bitmap Data in an AVI container
- PNG Frame Sequence (including alpha channel)
- JPEG Frame Sequence
- Animated GIF (currently on desktop only)
These formats were chosen to provide the greatest flexibility in the use of the output for either transcoding or compositing purposes. In all cases the files are rendered at cinematic 24 frames per second with a 16:9 wide-screen aspect ratio at a 360p resolution. Higher resolutions, additional formats, and other framerates will be added in upcoming releases.
